About Those Taxes

Tax season has begun, and as in years past, we will have your favorite tax forms at Siouxland library branches. Because of a change in legislation that happened at the end of 2010, there was a printing delay, so as of now we have not received 1040 or 1040A forms--we expect them soon, but it is a good idea to call the library before you come down to pick them up. Other things have changed this year, too--did you know, for example, that the IRS will no longer be mailing paper tax forms to individuals?

Also, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) returns to the Main Library this year. Volunteers will be available to assist people with simple returns for income less than $48,500 on Saturdays in February from 10-4 PM and Mondays February 7-April 11 from 3-8 PM. For more information on the VITA program and who qualifies for free assistance, visit their website.

The IRS website has a good deal of information for tax filers on it, too, including printable forms and publications. Also check out their Tips for the 2010 Tax Season.

Happy Tax Filing!
