Magazines, Newspapers, and Journals, Oh My!

Say you're in the market for a new refrigerator--your first step might be to grab a copy of Consumer Reports magazine, or visit their website. Some information is available on the web, but you'll likely find that the full content comes at a price. More and more, newspapers and magazines are providing abbreviated content on their websites and only allowing access by paid subscription.

Your library card to the rescue! Full current and back issue articles from thousands of publications, including popular magazines like Newsweek and People, academic journals throughout all disciplines, national newspapers, and even Sioux Falls' own Argus Leader are available to you through our databases--for free, with your card.

Visit the Databases and Websites page and select the Magazines and Newspapers category for a list of resources. Both ProQuest and EBSCO Megafile contain a large selection of magazines and journals--EBSCO is where you'll find Consumer Reports. Try Newsbank to read articles from national papers like the New York Times, or the Argus Leader archives database for local content going back to 2002. If using these resources from home, you'll be asked to enter your library card number and PIN.

So before you make that major purchase, remember you can do your preliminary research at the library, for--you guessed it--free!
