Don't miss an important event at the Main Library on Saturday, 3/31! It's our first ever Health Volunteer Fair, from 10 AM-2 PM. Several local organizations will be present with information on volunteer opportunities in the healthcare field. Those participating include the Help!Line Center, Lutheran Social Services, RSVP, Senior Companions, Volunteers of America, and Children's Care Hospital and School. The co-sponsor of this event, Compassionate Care Hospice, will also be on hand to talk about their volunteer program.
When you are out and about Saturday, stop by and visit with these groups. Their need for volunteers is great, and we know our community cares!

May the odds be ever in your favor!
Will you be standing outside the theater at midnight, in line for one of the first showings of The Hunger Games movie? Sometimes adult customers at the library have been hesitant to express their love for Suzanne Collins' dystopian series, because you know...it's a "young adult" book. Call it what you want--we call it mighty good reading! Many of our library staff count themselves among the throng of fans who can't get enough of Katniss, Peeta, Gale, and their fight for survival in a society that only considers them for their entertainment value.
If you are yearning for more reads like The Hunger Games, check out this list from our website. Or hop over to Liz's teen blog, for some of her favorites.
If you do see the movie, let us know what you think. Mention it the next time you visit the library--you're sure to find a fellow fan!

It's not losing an hour...
Daylight Saving Time is upon us again! Some of us may grumble about the lost hour of sleep, but let's focus on the positive. For one thing, you can't "spring ahead" without SPRING. Also, you might say it's a rare chance to do some time traveling, into the future! For stories of characters who got to bend the rules of the time-space continuum, check out these titles:
Flying in Circles by Clayton Taylor

The Map of Time by Felix Palma
Time Travelers Never Die by Jack McDevitt
Now and Then by Jacqueline Sheehan
How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu
Steamed: a Steampunk Romance by Kate MacAlister
The Accidental Time Machine by Joe Haldeman
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
For us, the Living: a Comedy of Customs by Robert A. Heinlein

Sioux Falls, Then and Now
The Ronning Library will host "Then and Now: Our Legacy," a visual journey through Sioux Falls' growth over the last century. Kevin Gansz of Siouxland Heritage Museums will share historical photos from the museum's vast collection that show the city as it was in the late 1800s, compared with Sioux Falls as it is today.
Don't miss the chance to hear the history behind some of your favorite local landmarks! The program runs from 6:30-7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 6 at the Ronning Library. Call 367-8140 with questions.
